Communication During Late Alzheimer’s

Care for Lynne’s Alzheimer’s last stage relies more and more on nonverbal communication. Using the Alzheimer’s Association tips I’m presenting my approaches that have worked for me and her.

Approach her face to face & identify yourself

Bend down so her pupils focus on your eyes

Always use 1 sense: touch, sight, sounds, smells or tastes

Prioritize her emotions over words

Dignify her by being present without distraction

Watch for signals with her mouth or movement
